WHY GOLD MAKES FOR BEST DRESSED AT THE OSCARS

The Oscars are Hollywood's night of nights, the celebration of everything achieved in the previous years in cinema. In the world of fashion, the Oscars is always a showcase of the best of the new trends for the year, acting as a bit of an inspiration board for designers creating new collections.

In 2017, those celebrities considered the best dressed all wore gold. Some might ask if that's a little twee or cliched, dressing as a gold statue to an event where you win a golden statue; others might say that it's visualisation - Emma Stone wearing a floor length golden dress has visualised, embodied and crafted her Oscars win.

All we know is that gold dresses are absolutely hot right now, so let's take you through some of the stunners on show at the 2017 Oscars.

JESSICA BIEL

An absolute vision in this high-necked golden gown, Jessica Biel was an art-deco inspired masterpiece. Her sleek dark hair really set off the architectural details of the gown, but it was her poise and attitude that really left us all wanting more. The slightly mottled texture of the sequins serves to break up the long expanse of gold, while the feathered neckline adds texture and colour play. To pull off this dress you have to be bold and confident, and Jessica absolutely epitomises both of these.

EMMA STONE

More inspired by the roaring 20's, Emma Stone turned out in silver screen glamour expected after a film like La La Land. Her Oscars win is well deserved, but not why she will be crowned best dressed for the evening. The whimsy of her long beaded skirt, perfectly balanced by the sweetheart neckline of her gown suited her figure to an absolute tee.

NICOLE KIDMAN

If anyone ever suited a long slim fitting dress it was Nicole Kidman. A classic column shape, the high neck of her dress shows off her sculpted shoulders excellently, while the large mandala-style embellishments on the dress serve to give the illusion of curves. The softer golden tone Nicole wore works perfectly as a not-quite-neutral against her alabaster skin and strawberry blonde locks.

DAKOTA JOHNSON

Probably one of the most decisive dresses on the night, this golden number didn't quite inspire us. Too many folds and buttery gold rather than a rich, regal look left Dakota Johnson cutting a notable figure, if not quite striking or stunning. The over-the-top bow over her hips really was the cherry on top of his distinctly average cake. Why??!
